A Legacy
Since 1912

From wet heathland to one of the most celebrated private estates in the Netherlands — the story of De Wielewaal spans more than a century of Philips stewardship, private legacy and a new hospitality future.

1912
Anton Philips acquires the land on the Oirschotsedijk — at the time a wet heathland with ponds.
1920
Anton donates part of the grounds to the city, creating the Philips de Jonghpark — named after his wife Anna.
1934
Frits Philips commissions the manor house — English hunting lodge style with six chimneys, thatched rooflines and grand reception rooms.
1934–2005
Frits Philips lives at De Wielewaal for 71 years, receiving royalty, industrialists and world leaders in the legendary cellar rooms.
2007–2023
The estate is owned by entrepreneur Marc Brouwers, marking a private chapter between the Philips era and its new hospitality vision.
2024
A new vision begins: Landhuis De Wielewaal enters transformation into a hospitality destination shaped by gastronomy, wine, heritage, nature and boutique hotel stays.
